Appendix E - How To Apply For A Demand Responsive Bus Service On A Road Service Licence

To apply for the above service an operator must have a Road Service Licence and complete the relevant application form (You can apply for the service along with your application for a Road Service Licence).

The following information will be required:-

  • the name and address of the operator of the service and details of their road service licence including details of the booking agent (if appropriate).
  • A description of the area of operation of the service, accompanied by a map of a scale not smaller than 1:50,000 showing area of demand responsive operation;
  • the date on which the service will start operating;
  • the days and times during the year when the service will be provided.
  • the arrangements for pre-booking
  • the times when a booking may be made (e.g. 8 am - 10 pm , Monday to Friday, 52 weeks a year);
  • whether the travel demands of every prospective passenger will be met and, if not, what arrangements (if any) will be made where a person's demands cannot be met;
  • information about fares so that each prospective passenger can easily work out the fare for their intended journey;
  • the time window that will apply (up to a maximum of 20 minutes). The passenger will be picked up and set down not more than 10 minutes before or 10 minutes after the agreed pick-up/set down times;

If you wish to change or cancel a demand responsive bus service you should contact the Department. A fresh application may be required for any changes to a service.

ENFORCEMENT - DISCIPLINARY ACTION

An operator must operate the demand responsive bus service when it has been approved and listed on his Road Service Licence otherwise he runs the risk of losing it.

Persistent failure to meet the service conditions could also result in withdrawal of the service from a Road Service Licence.
