Question - Can a vehicle operating a demand responsive bus service ply for hire?
Answer - No. All passengers must pre-book.
Question - Can I operate a hail and ride service?
Answer - No. All passengers must pre-book.
Question - Can I undertake journeys longer than 15 miles in length?
Answer - Yes but each single passenger trip on that journey must not exceed 24.15kms (15 miles) when measured in a straight line between pick up and set down points. The Department may consider exceptions to this maximum distance to ensure no pockets of rural dwellers are excluded from the service, particularly around coastal or border areas.
Question - How far in advance can bookings be made, i.e. can a prospective passenger book a journey for every week to take him to and from work at 08.00/17.30?
Answer - The operator will set his own criteria on advance bookings. Provided each passenger journey has been pre-booked and is no greater than 24.15kms (15 miles) in distance meeting the criteria of demand responsive services . The Department may consider exceptions to this maximum distance to ensure no pockets of rural dwellers are excluded from the service, particularly around coastal or border areas.
