What is Professional Competence?

There are 2 levels of professional competence. These levels relate to National and International operations. If you or the nominated Transport Manager cannot show proof of professional competence the Department must refuse your application for a Road Service Licence.

  1. Professional competence can be established in any one of the following ways
    1. being the holder of a Road Service Licence before 1 January 1975 or for 3 years continuously prior to 1 January 1980
    2. passing the examination set by the Oxford Cambridge Royal Society of Arts and Examinations Board (OCR)
    3. possessing certain diplomas and qualifications from professional institutes (see qualifications listed at Appendix C)
    4. being the holder of a Certificate of Professional Competence issued by the Department stating that the holder has practical experience in Road Passenger Transport. If you do not already have such a Certificate you cannot now claim one

As proof of professional competence you must forward your original OCR Certificate, Institute Membership card and/or a Licensing Authority Certificate. This will be returned to you promptly.
