How Is Good Repute Decided?

In deciding good repute the Department will take account of any convictions and also any other relevant information. This includes any convictions that you, or any partners, directors or transport manager have in the UK or the EEC. Details of any convictions must be given on the application form. Repute must now be checked every 5 years as a result of a European Directive.

You, your company, your directors, partners or transport manager should declare any offence incurred in the last 5 years or any unspent convictions. Convictions which are 'spent' under the Rehabilitation of Offenders (NI) Order 1978 need not be declared. If you are not sure whether any convictions are " spent" declare them anyway and the Department will ignore those which no longer apply. Any 'spent' convictions which you declare will not influence your application as the Department is not allowed by law to take them into account.

If you, or any professionally competent person on whom your application depends, are convicted of any offence after your Licence application is sent in, and before the Department has reached a decision on it, you must give details to the Department. Convictions after a licence has been granted must also be reported to the Department.
