What Kind Of Licence Do I Need?
There are 2 types of Licence
- National Road Freight Operator's Licence
- International Road Freight Operator's Licence
A National Road Freight Operator's Licence allows you to carry goods for other people for reward in the United Kingdom. Even if you only carry other people's goods occasionally, you must have a National Road Freight Operator's Licence and a Road Freight Vehicle Licence for each vehicle you intend to operate.
An International Road Freight Operator's Licence allows you to carry goods for other people for reward on international journeys including the Republic of Ireland.
You do not need:
- a separate National Road Freight Operator's Licence to carry other people's goods for or reward in the United Kingdom if you have an International Road Freight Operator's Licence;
- a separate International Road Freight Operator's Licence to haul loaded trailers to or from ports within the United Kingdom as part of international journeys if your vehicles do not actually leave the United Kingdom - you can do this on a National Road Freight Operator's Licence.
