What Are The Rules On Loading?
You must not overload your vehicles.
Overloaded vehicles can be prohibited from continuing a journey and both driver and operator may be prosecuted for offences.
Make sure that you and the drivers of your vehicles know their maximum permitted axle and gross weights. These are normally shown on the manufacturers' plates fixed to the vehicles. If you are in any doubt about the load on the vehicle, check its axle and gross weight at the nearest public weighbridge.
The Department of Transport's 'Code of Practice on Safety of Loads on Vehicles' gives helpful advice on loading practices (you can buy a copy from Her Majesty's Stationery Office or through local bookshops).
