Concessions For A Disabled Person

Exemption from vehicle excise duty may be granted for a vehicle used by or for the purpose of a disabled person, if they:

  • receive Disability Living Allowance; the higher rate of the mobility component; or
  • receive War Pensioners Mobility Supplement; or
  • have an invalid carriage which does not exceed 508 kgs in weight unladen
  • were in receipt of Attendance Allowance before 13th October 1993 and have a valid MHS330 exemption certificate.

Disabled Passenger Scheme (DPS)

Any charitable organisation or anyone carrying physically/ mentally handicapped persons can apply for Disabled passenger Tax class. (To qualify for DPS concession, appropriate evidence must be produced). For further advice contact Vehicle Licensing Central Office (DVLNI).

If the vehicle is ever used in any way, which is not directly for the purposes of the disabled person, the exemption is not valid and the normal Vehicle Excise Duty must be paid.
