Duplicate Licences

Paper Licence Holders

If your paper driving licence has been lost, stolen or destroyed/defaced, you must complete driving licence application form DL1 (available from most post offices, local offices or directly from DVLNI by calling 0845 402 4000 and enclose the appropriate fee. You must also enclose original documentation confirming your identity (full list of acceptable identity documents) and a passport sized colour photograph taken against a plain light background (photograph criteria). Send your completed application and fee to

Note: If your paper licence is defaced you must return it with your application for a duplicate licence.

If you find your licence after requesting a duplicate you must return the original licence to the agency with an explanatory letter.
