Endorsements and disqualifications
If a Court in Northern Ireland convicts you of a motoring offence, the Court can order that your licence is endorsed with penalty points or order a period of disqualification.
If a driver accumulates 12 or more points within a three year period from the commission or an offence they could be liable to a period of disqualification.
From 11 th October 2004, disqualifications imposed in Northern Ireland will also be recognised in Great Britain and vice versa

High Risk Offenders
The High Risk Offender scheme is prescribed by Article 52 of the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996.
A driver who falls into any of the following categories when making an application for a driving licence after disqualification will be considered a High Risk Offender:-
- Driving with an alcohol level more than 2.5 times the legal limit
- Failure to provide a specimen
- 2 specified alcohol-related offences within 10 years*
* If you are convicted of an alcohol related offence on or after 03/05/05 and you have had another specified alcohol related conviction within the previous 10 years, you will be classified a High Risk Offender.
