An Example of An Old Style Driving Licence

1,2. SURNAMES, FORENAMES |
These are the names on your driver record. |
3. DATE OF BIRTH AND TOWN OF BIRTH |
It is a requirement to show the place of birth on the driving licence. This will be obtained from drivers when they apply for or renew their licence. Where it is not known the entry will show `N/K'. |
4. ISSUED BY DVLNI, COLERAINE |
This area will show the date of issue of the licence by DVLNI. |
5. DRIVER NUMBER |
This is made up of a 7 digit number plus 1 check digit. This driver number is unique to the driver. |
6. SIGNATURE |
You should sign your licence clearly and in ink. |
7. PERMANENT ADDRESS |
This shows your permanent postal address in NORTHERN IRELAND. If it is not correct, you must inform us using the space provided on the back of the licence. |
8. CATEGORY ON LICENCE |
These are EC categories of entitlement which are recognised in all member states. The categories are defined on the back of the licence. |
9. CATEGORY PICTOGRAM |
These illustrations are representations of the types of vehicle you may drive. |
10. STAMP |
These boxes will show the categories you are entitled to drive. Where you do not have entitlement to a category the box will be lined out. |
11, 12. CATEGORY VALIDITY PERIODS |
These columns show the dates when your entitlement to drive each category begins and ends. |
13. INFORMATION CODES |
The code numbers printed in this area indicate what (if any) restrictions your entitlement is subject to. An explanation of the codes appears on the reverse of the paper licence. What are the information codes that appear on driving licences? |
14. SERIAL NUMBER |
Each licence has its own unique serial number. |
15. NATIONAL CATEGORY ENTITLEMENT |
This area will contain full national UK entitlements (not recognised in other EC/EEU countries). |
16. PROVISIONAL ENTITLEMENT |
This area will contain details of any provisional entitlement you may have. |
17. ENDORSEMENTS |
This area is used to record any disqualification's and/or endorsements that a court may have ordered. |
