NI Driving Licence Holders applying for a N.I driver card
Your driving licence must be valid, have the correct entitlements and your personal details must be up to date. You must enclose a cheque or postal order for appropriate fee and a photograph must always be submitted with a first driver card application.
If you hold an old style non-identity checked driving licence i.e licence issued before 1/4/99 , you must submit identity documentation with your first driver card application . This can be either your original birth certificate or original passport. Copies are not accepted. If you choose to send in your birth certificate, your photograph must be authenticated by a reliable person who lives in the UK.
Non- NI Driving Licence Holders applying for a N.I driver card
We cannot issue you with a N.I driver card unless you are normally resident in this country. Normal residence means the place where you have personal or occupational ties. With your first application for a N.I digital tachograph driver card, you must submit: - the appropriate fee; your non-NI driving licence; proof of residency in this country e.g contract of accommodation, bank statements, letter from employer; identity documentation ( please refer to the information booklet that accompanies the digital tachograph driver card application (D777NI) to determine what documentation is required to support your application).
Lost or stolen Driver Cards
Lost or stolen driver cards - if your digital tachograph driver card has been lost or stolen or damaged, you should report the loss, theft or damage to DVLNI within 7 days . A replacement card can be applied for over the phone and you must pay by Visa, MasterCard, Maestro or Delta. As your replacement card must be collected and signed for by you in person at a Local Vehicle Licensing Office or DVTA Test Centre, you must state the most convenient location for card collection. When you call to collect your replacement card, you must show proof of identity e.g your driving licence, and also sign a declaration or your card will not be handed out.
Company Card Applications
A company usually holds only one set of cards, all of which must bear the company head office address. DVLNI can only issue Company cards to Companies whose head office address is within Northern Ireland.
If a company requires multiple cards, only one application form is required, and the number of cards needed should be requested on the application form. Please note the fee is £38.00 per card for a first company card application.
The company card/s will be dispatched to the Company Head Office address. How the cards are distributed internally is a company matter.
