How to register as a number plate supplier

Northern Ireland number plate suppliers can apply to register using the application form available for download below or by telephoning the Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) on 0300 1230797.

The application forms listed below are in Adobe Acrobat PDF format.  This means that to be able to read and print the forms you should have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer.  For further information please see the Adobe website.

Application to Register as a Number Plate Supplier. (V940)
Application to Register as a Number Plate Supplier Supplementary form. (V940/1)

Once completed, the form(s) together with the registration fee should be sent to:

DVLA
The Register of Number Plate Suppliers
SWANSEA
SA99 1DB

All successful applications will be acknowledged.

Registration fee

A fee of £40 per place of business is payable to cover administration costs and enforcement.

Please note number plate suppliers must register their head office together with each sales outlet and provide a fee of £40 for each registered premise.  It is the company’s head office which will be allocated the Supplier Identity number (SID) for the purpose of the register, with the individual business outlets being noted on the register under the head office SID.  This is because a company has a legal identity of its own where as each office or premise owned by that company does not have a separate legal identity.  However, subsidiaries should register separately in order for a SID number to be allocated.

Duration of registration

Registration will last as long as number plates are sold as part of a business.
Registration will cease if you are no longer trading as a number plate supplier.  You must inform DVLA within 28 days if this is the case.
A Magistrates’ Court may suspend a business from trading for up to 5 years.  When the period of suspension has elapsed, DVLA will reinstate the registration but before doing so we will write to the business concerned to establish whether trading as a number plate supplier is to resume.

Details held on the internet
