Selling Your Vehicle - Private Sale
When selling your vehicle privately you should complete Sections 6 and 10 of the Certificate with the new keeper's details. Both the seller and the buyer should sign and date the declaration at Section 8.
The new keeper (buyer) should be given Section 10 (V5C/2) only and not any other part of the Certificate. You (the seller) must return Sections 1 to 8 of the Certificate to DVA for which you will receive an acknowledgement letter to confirm that you are no longer the registered keeper. If the new keeper details have not been completed you will be issued with a letter asking you to provide these details.

Selling Your Vehicle - To Trade
When selling your vehicle to a motor trader (i.e. Motor Dealer / Motor Vehicle Auctioneer / Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) / Finance Company) you must complete Section 9 and sign and date the declaration on that Section - You must ensure that the Trader also signs and dates this declaration. The seller must return the completed Section 9 to DVA and give the Trader the remainder of the Certificate.
On receipt of the fully completed Section 9 DVA will issue you with an acknowledgement letter to confirm that you are no longer the registered keeper.

Scrapping Your Vehicle
When transferring your vehicle to an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) please follow the procedures outlined above (Selling Your Vehicle to Trade).
When scrapping your vehicle personally you must tick Box 17 in Section 6 and enter the Date of Scrapping in Box 18 in Section 6. You must also sign and date the declaration in Section 8 and return the Certificate to DVA.
