When Can I Claim A Refund?

To claim a refund you should use form V14(NI) available at Post Office ® Branches, Local Offices and on-line. Your refund will be sent to you in the form of an account payee only cheque.New vehicle tax refund rules

You may apply for a refund even if you have lost your licence disc or the vehicle has been stolen. If you have lost your licence disc you will have to apply for a duplicate tax disc on form V20(NI), £7.00 fee and enclose V14(NI) for the refund. Alternatively you can complete form V33(NI) only. There is a section on the form, which allows DVA Licensing to deduct the £7 fee from your refund. The refund will be paid from the date we receive the application. If your vehicle has been stolen you will need to obtain a letter from the PSNI and send it to DVA Licensing with form V14(NI). There is a 10% handling charge on the cost of a six month licence but this is not included in any refund.

If you sell your vehicle or if your entitlement ends, you should return your exempt licence. If you are licensing a new vehicle with your exemption certificate, enclose the old tax disc with your application.
