Why Are Vehicles Clamped?

From early in 1998 vehicles that were unlicensed and parked on the public road could be wheelclamped.

From 1st October 2008, unlicensed vehicles can be clamped off the public road unless a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) is in force. It also remains an offence to use or keep an unlicensed vehicle on a public road

A vehicle that is clamped and which remains unclaimed for more than 24 hours will be impounded. In some cases the vehicle is seized immediately.

Checks are made of the DVA vehicle register before clamping can be authorised, but you should ensure that a valid licence is displayed on the vehicle at all times.

This will avoid having your vehicle wrongly clamped.
